Bach - Violin Sonata No.2 In a Minor, BWV 1003
This spectacular piece of solo writing by Bach has a visceral energy as it leaps around energetically yet still always maintaining an inexorable duple feel. The pull of every harmonic twist and turn is expertly achieved with Bach as ever showing that he rarely (if ever) puts a foot wrong. The choppy and hurried attitude of this movement makes it an ideal showcase for virtuosity. It was used to sift the strong from the weak in the 2010 Adolphe Sax International Competition.
